Mr. Hegeler has devoted the majority of his professional life representing physicians and medical groups. Mr. Hegeler’s group litigated the case which established the right of physicians and physician groups to transfer the care of a patient who has sued a physician.
The Hegeler Group consults with physician groups of all sizes to offer the insight and benefit of his 25 years of experience as a trial lawyer and his experience formulating and implementing risk management and medical malpractice defense strategies. Since 1988 Mr. Hegeler has represented the largest and most prestigious health care providers and physician groups in San Diego, California, including Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, Scripps Clinic Medical Group, UCSD Medical Center and Medical Group, Sharp Rees-Stealy Medical Group, and Southern California Permanente Medical Group.
Implementation of this proactive and comprehensive malpractice avoidance strategy by one of the largest groups has resulted in a claims paid out ratio dramatically below the national average and a significant decline in filing against physicians. The reduction in lawsuits filed and claims paid are related to a specific approach.
